One of my favorite great educational toys for kids is Maplewood Landmark's alphabet and name trains. It makes the perfect baby gift. I know because I give it as a gift to all the 2nd born children and then send an extra name train car to the first child. Your child's eyes will light up with delight once they see their train set spells out their own name! They are fantastic gifts for any occasion.
Are you aware that The Good Toy Guide recommended Brio Trains as 1 out of the 5 advocated educational toys for toddlers and preschoolers? According to them a Brio Train is,
"a train with interactive details that encourages children to master small movements and hand eye coordination. Controlling the train and constructing the tracks creates an awareness of cause and effect, early scientific understanding and basic mathematical concepts."
Different manufacturers also can make amazing trains and accessories. They meet these standards and could be thought to be educational toys for kids.
Before we start out, however, I should whisper to you a secret.... there are not truly educational toys. No sir. Playthings are simply props. It's in the actual play that demonstrates exactly how useful a certain toy is to the little one that has been playing with it.
Toys simply will not teach cognitive qualities. What they can do is promote youngsters to work at the cognitive skills, and provide little ones somewhere to be inventive and enterprising. And that's the thing that makes wonderfully built playthings and toys imperative. A plaything that is not quality made just creates a great deal of disappointments if the kid just can't easily work with it.
That will bring me to the second issue. Parents, if you're aiming to pay for a toy train set and aren't thinking you should get a table set up for the train set, the train tracks will persistently get messed up while on the ground and your children will get really annoyed. Often when this happens, they'll just stop playing with the train set at all.
In any event, that's just the sort of thing that took place with my grandkids. And so I created and constructed a solid wooden nearly indestructable toy train table (none of this phony wood that doesn't hold up for more than One year, and the screws and nails get stripped and damage the table!).
